Franco-Congolese defender Presnel Kimpembe ends two-decade PSG journey

Presnel Kimpembe has brought his 20-year association with Paris Saint-Germain to a close, joining Qatar Sports Club in a move that marks the end of an era for both player and club.

PSG confirmed the transfer on Sunday, September 7, 2025, paying tribute to the 30-year-old defender across its social media channels.

The departure of one of the most prominent graduates of the club’s youth academy closes a chapter that began when Kimpembe joined the Parisians as a 10-year-old in 2005.

The centre-back made his senior debut in October 2014 against RC Lens and went on to establish himself as a mainstay in the first team.

Over the course of his career in Paris, Kimpembe amassed 241 appearances in all competitions, becoming a symbol of the club’s Titis Parisiens identity and one of its longest-serving figures.

A decorated career in Paris

Kimpembe leaves the French capital with an extraordinary record of honours.

His trophy cabinet includes one Champions League, nine Ligue 1 titles, eight French Cups, five League Cups and ten Trophées des Champions.

These accolades secure his place among the most decorated players in PSG’s history.

Internationally, he also enjoyed notable success.

A member of the French squad that lifted the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Kimpembe added to his international résumé with victory in the UEFA Nations League three years later.

A tribute from PSG

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi paid glowing tribute to the departing defender, calling him an exemplary player who has remained loyal to the club since childhood.

His words reflected the high regard in which Kimpembe is held within the PSG community, both for his commitment on the pitch and his enduring bond with the club.

A new chapter in Qatar

Kimpembe, who began his football journey in Éragny before joining PSG’s academy, now takes on a new challenge in the Middle East with Qatar Sports Club.

At 30, he enters this phase of his career carrying both immense experience and a legacy defined by loyalty and silverware.

For PSG, his departure is more than a transfer – it is the closing of a significant era.

For Kimpembe, it is an opportunity to embark on a fresh adventure while leaving behind an indelible mark on the club where he grew up.
