Franck Kessie back on Atalanta radar as Bergamo return is explored

Atalanta have begun discussions about the possibility of bringing Franck Kessie back to the club, according to Sky Sport, with talks currently ongoing and no agreement yet reached.

The Ivory Coast international first established himself at the highest level during his time with Atalanta, before moving on to AC Milan and subsequently pursuing several opportunities abroad. His spell in Bergamo remains an important stage in his development and the Serie A club are now considering whether a reunion could be possible.

Atalanta are understood to be assessing the conditions of a potential deal for the midfielder as they look to strengthen their midfield. However, the Italian club still need to reach an agreement with the player and the other parties involved before the move can progress.

Kessie’s situation is also being monitored by Al Ahli, who are reportedly interested in a possible transfer. Africafoot previously reported that the Saudi Arabian club had taken a close interest in the player.

According to Transfermarkt, Kessie is currently valued at 12m euros. That figure could make a return to Bergamo an attractive opportunity for Atalanta, although the financial terms of any move would still need to be negotiated.

The midfielder was earning an annual salary of 20m euros, equivalent to 13bn FCFA, in Saudi Arabia. His wages could therefore represent an important factor in discussions over a return to Italy, particularly if Atalanta are required to match a significant proportion of his previous income.

Kessie knows Atalanta well from his earlier spell with the club, where his performances helped establish his reputation before his transfer to AC Milan. He later continued his career outside Italy, meaning a move back to Bergamo would mark a return to the place where he first made a major impact in European football.

For now, the negotiations remain at an exploratory stage. Neither Atalanta nor Kessie has reached a final agreement, and the club will have to convince the player that a return to Italy is the right next step in his career.
