Francisco Junior makes Drammens BK move after spell without a club

Francisco Junior, the Guinea-Bissau and Portuguese central midfielder, has joined Drammens BK after leaving the 34-year-old without a club.

The Bissau-born player moves to the Norwegian side following his most recent spell with FC Botosani, whom he joined in August 2024 before departing in February 2025. He subsequently spent time without a club before completing his move to Drammens BK on 2 September 2026.

Junior is a right-footed central midfielder and stands 1.72m tall. He has experience of Norwegian football from his time with Strømsgodset, where he played after leaving English club Everton in February 2016. His career has also included spells with Vendsyssel FF in Denmark, Hapoel Haifa in Israel, Gaz Metan and Sepsi OSK in Romania, as well as loan periods with Vitesse, Port Vale and Wigan Athletic.

He made 79 appearances in Norway’s Eliteserien, scoring three goals and providing three assists. His wider career record includes appearances in Portugal’s top flight, Israel’s Ligat ha’Al and England’s League One, alongside matches in European qualifying competitions and domestic cup football.

Junior helped Wigan Athletic win the English third tier in the 2015-16 season. He later collected two Romanian honours with Sepsi OSK, winning both the Romanian Cup and Romanian Super Cup during the 2022-23 campaign.

His first senior move came in February 2012, when he joined Everton as a free agent after leaving Benfica’s youth system. He began his development with Benfica de Bissau before progressing through Benfica’s under-17 and under-19 teams.

The move to Drammens BK adds a midfielder with experience across several European leagues and a record of success in English and Romanian domestic competitions. Junior’s arrival also marks a return to Norway after more than a decade since his earlier spell with Strømsgodset.

Francisco Junior’s transfer to Drammens BK was completed on 2 September 2026.
