Claude Makelele Weighing PSG Contract Extension Amid Ligue 1 Interest
Claude Makelele is facing an important decision regarding his future at Paris Saint-Germain. The former Chelsea midfielder, who currently serves as an assistant to Laurent Blanc, has reportedly been offered a two-year contract extension by the French club. Despite this, Makelele is still contemplating the offer, as he harbors ambitions of becoming a No. 1 coach after securing a waiver to coach while working towards his DEPF (Diplôme d’Entraînement Professionnel de Football).
In addition to PSG’s offer, Makelele has attracted interest from several Ligue 1 clubs, which has added an element of uncertainty to his decision. The possibility of taking on a managerial role elsewhere has caused some doubt in his mind about continuing at PSG.
However, it seems that the Parisian club is keen to keep him on board. According to Le Parisien, PSG has made a concerted effort to retain Makelele, offering him a significant salary increase. The new contract would see Makelele’s monthly wages rise by 20%, bringing them to approximately €50,000, a figure designed to persuade him to stay and continue working alongside Blanc at the club.
As Makelele weighs his options, PSG’s efforts to secure his services highlight his value within the team, whether as an assistant coach or potentially in a larger managerial role in the future.
