Tensions Escalate Between Pierre Ménès and Patrice Evra Over Controversial Comments
The controversy surrounding French football pundit Pierre Ménès and national team left-back Patrice Evra shows no sign of abating. The spat, which has drawn significant media attention, took a new turn as Ménès expressed his frustration over comments made by Evra that were reportedly censored by French broadcaster TF1’s legal department.
Speaking on RMC radio, Ménès criticized Evra’s remarks and the way they were edited before airing. The Canal+ consultant suggested that the omitted parts of Evra’s statements were far more inflammatory than those broadcast.
“What hurts is when the attacks are constant on the physical side. I’m talking about Evra again. When I hear what Evra said about me that was cut by the TF1 legal department, it’s as if I had said: ‘Evra is a dirty n****r.’ It’s exactly the same thing,” Ménès said, using the original wording to emphasize the severity of the accusation.
He went on to add, “I would have lost my job, I would have faced legal action, I would have been taken to MRAP (Movement Against Racism and for Friendship between Peoples), I would have taken everything. And rightly so. Sometimes, you have to have strong nerves.”
This escalating public exchange highlights the intensity of the personal and professional clash between the two figures. Ménès, known for his outspoken nature as a football commentator, has often been at the center of heated debates. Evra, one of France’s most recognizable footballers, has also not shied away from voicing his opinions.
The incident raises broader questions about media responsibility, censorship, and the handling of sensitive subjects in sports journalism.
At the time of writing, neither Evra nor his representatives have responded to Ménès’s latest comments.
