Marcel Desailly, who has been representing the French Football Federation (FFF) in Africa since October 2011, has concluded his tenure.
Noel Le Graët, the president of the FFF, has confirmed that Desailly’s mission will not be extended: “It’s over. We didn’t make it public, it’s true. He is still an employee of Canal+ and it was not compatible. We signed for two years, and the contract has ended. We both realized that his schedule did not align with our requirements.”
Desailly’s Career
As a formidable defender, Marcel Desailly boasts one of the most illustrious records in French football history. He was a key figure in the French national team’s triumphs, winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Euro 2000, and the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2001 and 2003.
At the club level, Desailly clinched the UEFA Champions League title twice, first with Olympique de Marseille in 1993 and then with AC Milan in 1994. He also enjoyed a successful stint in the English Premier League, notably as the captain of Chelsea FC, where he earned the moniker “The Rock.”
Widely regarded as one of the finest defenders in French football, Desailly earned 116 caps for the French national team, captaining the side from 2000 to 2004. He also represented France at the junior levels and featured in the France B team on two occasions.
