The French Ligue 1 introduced a new ball called the “80,” named in reference to the 80th anniversary of professional football. The ball is characterized by its yellow color and was set to be used from the 16th day of the championship, starting on December 8 and 9.
In a press release, the LFP (Professional Football League) announced the change in the appearance of the championship ball: “Adidas is launching a new version of the official Ligue 1 ball for the second part of the season. Remember, the new Ligue 1TM ball was presented on the occasion of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Professional Football League (LFP), in Paris on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. As a reminder, ‘the 80’ celebrates the 80th anniversary of professional football and its 19 champions: from Olympique Lillois to Montpellier Hérault SC. The names of the French champion clubs are written on the different panels of the ball. Note that this new version uses bright colors in a modern and dynamic spirit in order to electrify the second part of the championship on the road to the championship title.”
