Mathieu Debuchy expressed a mix of disappointment and pride after France’s exit from the 2014 World Cup against a stronger German side. Despite the loss, he acknowledged the great journey the team had shared over the past month and a half.
Debuchy said,
“We’re really disappointed, we wanted to go all the way, we’re not going to hide that. Now, we’re very proud of what we’ve done. We’ve learned a lot together, shared a lot of joy in living together. We can be proud.”
He also reflected on how close they came:
“There were a lot of emotions. We’ve had a great adventure… We tell ourselves that we didn’t miss much, that we could have done it… We were at the same level as Germany.”
Looking forward, Debuchy remains optimistic about the future of French football:
“The group is young, and for the future, it promises great things.”
He and his teammates are already preparing their sights on Euro 2016, which will be hosted on home soil in France—a chance to come back stronger and fulfill their ambitions.
