Andriy Lunin became the first goalkeeper in the 124-year history of El Clasico to win at least four of his opening five matches against Barcelona, after Real Madrid beat their rivals 2-1 in La Liga on Sunday.
The victory gave Lunin another significant milestone in a fixture that has defined Spanish football for more than a century. The Ukraine goalkeeper has now been involved in four wins in the five games in which he has started against Barcelona.
His record began with Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory in October 2022. He was also in goal for a 4-1 win in January 2024 and a 3-2 success in April of the same year.
The latest triumph, a 2-1 victory in October 2026, completed an unprecedented run for a goalkeeper in the rivalry, according to Tribuna.
Lunin’s only defeat against Barcelona came in October 2024, when Real Madrid were beaten 4-0.
The result therefore strengthened the Ukrainian’s position in the history of meetings between the two clubs, with his latest appearance adding another victory to an already notable record.
The achievement also provides further encouragement to Real Madrid’s reserve goalkeeper, who continues to demonstrate his ability to perform in major matches. His record against Barcelona now includes a historic statistical mark in one of football’s most prominent rivalries.
The listed La Liga fixtures include Barcelona on 31 October 2026, followed by Deportivo Alaves against Racing Santander on 01 November 2026, and Real Madrid.
