Forward Tshegofatso Mabasa bent on breaking Orlando Pirates’ all-time scoring record before 2025 AFCON

Orlando Pirates attacker Tshegofatso Mabasa is poised to break the club’s goalscoring record before the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Morocco later this year.

The South African giants are gearing up for the 2025/26 football campaign, with Mabasa bent on making a meaningful for the club.

Mabasa, considered as one of the top striker in the league has racked up 66 goals in 226 appearances in the South African top-flight.

The 28-year-old has scored 46 goals in 167 games for the club, sitting just six goals behind legendary midfielder Benedict Vilakazi’s 52-goal mark.

Tshegofatso Mabasa scored fifteen goals in 48 games last season and as the new campaign beckons, the Orlando Pirates forward will be eager to improve his numbers upfront by contributing to as many goals as he possibly can for the team.

However, the 28-year-old admits that he’s not fazed by the responsibility as it’s part and parcel of the job.

“I’m aiming for a very successful season, and I think I’m about 10 or 11 goals away. I want to reach that record before AFCON kicks off,” said the Orlando Pirates striker.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
