South African clubs face a serious stumbling block for the acquisition of free agent Percy Tau in the ongoing transfer window.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion attacker is currently unattached following his departure from Qatar SC early this month.
Tau severed ties with Qatari SC this month following a short spell in the Asian country. He is now available to join any club on a free transfer.
His return to South Africa remains a possibility, but clubs have set a condition. Tau expects a salary of 1 million dollars per year. However, South African clubs are unwilling to meet this demand due to his lack of goals.
Per reports, clubs in the South African intends to offer the former Al Ahly star around 500 thousand dollars.
Tau is reportedly on the radar of Egyptian club Zamalek, but he is not their first-choice option. The club would only consider signing him if winger Ahmed Jafeli leaves on loan, freeing up a foreign player slot for Tau.
During his stint in Doha, Tau featured in nine Qatar Stars League matches, providing four assists without scoring a goal. The eight-time league champions struggled in the just ended season, finishing in a disappointing 10th position in the league, just one spot above the relegation zone.
