Juan Carlos Osorio interested in Al Ahly coaching job

Former Zamalek head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has reportedly expressed interest in taking charge of rivals Al Ahly, as the Cairo giants continue their search for a new technical director.

The Egyptian giants are currently without a substantive tactician after parting ways with Danish gaffer Jess Thorup following a disappointing campaign.

As per reports, Osorio has offered his services to Al Ahly through intermediaries, with the Colombian coach actively seeking a return to Egyptian football following his previous stint in the country.

Osorio considers Al Ahly his preferred destination should the opportunity arise, believing the club’s structure, ambition and long-term sporting project provide the ideal environment for success.

The experienced tactician previously managed Zamalek in 2023, gaining experience in Egyptian football before moving on to other roles, including a spell with Athletico Paranaense in Brazil. His extensive coaching résumé also includes stints with the national teams of Mexico and Paraguay, as well as club experience with São Paulo and assistant duties at Manchester City under Kevin Keegan.

His emergence comes at a time when Al Ahly are actively evaluating several foreign candidates following recent changes within the club’s technical setup. The Egyptian champions are expected to make a decision in the coming period as they look to stabilise their coaching situation ahead of the new season.

Osorio’s familiarity with Egyptian football, combined with his international experience, is seen as a key factor behind his interest in the role. However, no official negotiations have been confirmed at this stage, with the club still assessing multiple options.

Al Ahly’s coaching situation remains open-ended for now, but Osorio’s willingness to return to Egypt adds another high-profile name to the growing list of candidates linked with one of Africa’s biggest clubs.
