Former South African star Teko Modise has revealed how Pitso Mosimane played a key role to get him signed for SuperSport United during his playing days.

Modise joined SuperSport United in 2006 from the now-defunct City Pillars club following an impressive performance in the National First Division. After just a season, Modise departed City Pillars club to join fellow South African club, Orlando Pirates.

The 42-year-old was a subject of interest after a triumphant 2005/06 season with the now-defunct City Pillars club, where he was named the National First Division Player of the Year,

Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns all showed interest in the midfielder but opted to join SuperSport.

And according to him, the then SuperSport coach Pitso Mosimane influenced the move to the club.

“We were sitting in a restaurant, and Pitso began to literally coach me: explaining where I would play, what would be required of me. He wasn’t just inviting me to the team — he was already building a plan. That’s when I realized: I want to play for SuperSport United,” recalled the midfielder.

Modise is one of the best midfielder to have emerged from South Africa, having had spells with giants Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City and others.

He made 66 appearances for the Bafana Bafana, scoring 10 goals since his debut in 2007.
