Former Real Madrid hero Joselu agrees move to Al Sailiya

Joselu has agreed to join Qatari club Al Sailiya on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano, continuing the 36-year-old striker’s career in Qatar after leaving Al Gharafa.

The move will represent Joselu’s second experience in Qatari football. He spent two seasons with Al Gharafa after departing Real Madrid at the end of the 2023-24 season and is now set to begin a new chapter with Al Sailiya.

Joselu became one of Real Madrid’s unlikely heroes during the club’s memorable Champions League campaign in 2023-24. He scored twice late in the second leg of the semi-final against Bayern Munich, turning the tie in Real Madrid’s favour and sending them through to the final.

The striker’s two goals came in the closing stages of the match, completing a remarkable individual contribution on one of the most dramatic European nights in the club’s recent history.

During his time with Real Madrid, Joselu made 51 appearances in all competitions. He scored 19 goals and provided three assists, while also winning the Champions League, La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

He joined Al Gharafa following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season and continued to produce consistently in front of goal. Across 57 matches in all competitions for the Qatari side, Joselu scored 27 goals and supplied five assists before his spell with the club came to an end.

His transfer to Al Sailiya gives the club a forward with extensive experience of European football. Joselu has previously played in Spain, England and Germany, in addition to his spell with Real Madrid.

Al Sailiya are now waiting for Joselu to join the squad as they look to benefit from his experience and goalscoring record. For the Spanish striker, the move provides another opportunity to continue his career outside Europe after establishing a special place in Real Madrid’s recent history.
