Former Premier League star Cheikhou Kouyaté has hinted at a return to the Senegalese league after parting ways with Turkish club, Amedspor.
The 36-year-old midfielder recently severed ties with the Turkish club, bringing an end to his short spell. Kouyaté has, however, explained his exit from the club, expressing disappointment over lack of playing time.
Kouyaté was used sparingly at the club, making only eight appearances for the Turkish outfit and starting just one.
Now a free agent, the 2021 African champion has not ruled out a return to Senegal to play in the local league. “Yeggo was my club, but it is not currently in the Pro League. We are going to consider the possibility of playing three to six months in that league.”
Explaining his exit from Amedspor, the midfielder said, “There are things I don’t accept. Maybe others can adapt to certain situations, but for me, if there is no respect, it’s better to part ways. It’s very difficult when you leave a big league to come to Turkey. There’s a big difference,”
Kouyaté arrived in Turkey as a free agent, having been without a club prior to signing for Amedspor. Despite the high expectations that accompanied his arrival, his adventure in the Turkish second tier lasted approximately five months, with both parties ultimately deciding to part ways.
The experienced former Premier League midfielder will be seeking a new destination as he considers the next and possibly final chapter of his playing career.
At the international level, Kouyaté has made 92 appearances for the Senegal national team, scoring four goals across the period.
