Zamalek have officially parted ways with Swiss coach Christian Gross, with the club’s board of directors deciding to terminate his contract after Thursday’s training session.
The decision comes despite Gross leading the team to a decent record of eight wins, three draws, and two losses in his 13 games in charge during his second stint with the club.
In his place, Zamalek has reached an agreement with Portuguese coach José Peseiro, who is set to take over immediately.
Peseiro has already arrived in Egypt for his new adventure and will begin his tenure on Friday.
He will be accompanied by four foreign assistants, along with Egyptian coach Ayman Abdel Aziz, who will be part of his technical staff.
Peseiro is no stranger to Egyptian football, having previously managed Al Ahly in 2015.
During his brief time with the club, he led them in 12 matches before departing for a new opportunity.
Since then, he has managed FC Porto, Sporting Braga, and Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, as well as the Venezuelan and Nigerian national teams.
His most recent achievement was guiding Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations final in Cote d’Ivoire. The Super Eagles lost 2-1 to the hosts in the final at the Stade d’Ebimpe in Abidjan.
