Former Manchester United youth coach Jonathan Hill has expressed a strong desire to take the helm of Nigeria’s national football team.
The Super Eagles’ head coach position is again in the spotlight after the three-time African champions secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Since Finidi George’s exit in June, interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has been leading the team.
However, following a disappointing home loss to Rwanda in their final AFCON qualifier, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly considering fresh leadership.
Hill, a UEFA A Licence holder with experience at both Manchester United and Manchester City U18 levels, views the role as a big opportunity.
“This is a role I truly fancy because of its demanding nature and the likelihood it brings to push one to do their best,” Hill told Sports Boom, via Legit.
“It’s a great, untapped talent pool. I enjoy the cultural and sporting experiences, and I know I do well with them.
“And the profile it offers, you know. It’s a highly contested role, but with my strong resume, you might wonder why I’m not working at present. It’s a mystery.”
With coaching stints at Fulham, Tromsdalen, Exeter City, and Rotherham, Hill believes he can build on the work done by Eguavoen’s team and help Nigeria achieve World Cup qualification.
