Stade de Reims has officially appointed Samba Diawara as their permanent head coach, marking the end of his stint as interim manager.
The club’s general manager, Mathieu Lacour, confirmed the decision today, revealing that Diawara would lead the team with a long-term vision.
“This is neither an interim nor a temporary choice until the end of the season: Samba is the coach of the professional team, with a long-term vision for the role and our collaboration,” Lacour stated.
Since taking over on February 3rd, Diawara has faced tough challenges. Despite Reims failing to score under his leadership so far, the club has managed to progress to the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France, winning 3-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Bourgoin-Jallieu.
However, their league form has been less encouraging, with losses to Olympique Lyonnais (4-0) and Angers SCO (1-0). With 12 games remaining, Reims find themselves only four points above the relegation playoff spot.
Reims will play Rennes on February 21st at the Roazhon Park.
