Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has hinted at the possible departure of Egyptian star Mohammed from the club as he nears the expiration of his contract.
Salah, who has been in a tremendous form this season will see his current contract expire at the end of the campaign. There are reportedly disagreements on the duration and pay of contracts.
Despite his impressive performance, the former African Footballer of the Year has yet to receive a contract renewal offer from the Premier League giants.
And according to Lovren, Salah is close to departing Liverpool since the club’s leadership does not value the Egyptian forward enough.
“I have to be careful with what I say because I know a lot of things. Everyone wants Salah to stay, and I do too, but the reality is that I feel he is closer to leaving.”
He added: “I called him and told him: ‘Mo, you have to think about yourself. Look at everything you’ve given to this club and what you can still offer’.” he told The Daily Mail.
Lovren suggested that issues behind the scenes are causing tension, stating that Liverpool do not appreciate Salah as much as they should.
He continued: “If it was Messi or Ronaldo, we would hear about his contract renewal every day. But it seems Salah does not get the same attention.”
The 32-year-old Egyptian top star has racked up 27 goals and provided 19 assists in 35 games. Despite his outstanding performance, Salah’s future at Anfield hangs in the balance.
