Durban City to appoint Ben Youssef Khalil as new coach

Durban City have reportedly identified former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Ben Youssef Khalil as one of the leading candidates to take over the club’s vacant head coaching position ahead of the new season.

Khalil has been without a club since departing Kaizer Chiefs following the expiration of his contract at Naturena. The Tunisian tactician left alongside fellow coach Cedric Kaze after the conclusion of their tenure with the Soweto giants.

As Durban City intensify their search for a permanent manager, Khalil has emerged as a strong option to lead the club into its next chapter. The club has been operating under interim coach Pitso Dladla since January following the departure of Sinethemba Badela.

Durban City’s management is understood to be carefully assessing several candidates before making a final decision. The club is keen to appoint a coach capable of building a competitive side and guiding the team through what promises to be a challenging campaign.

Khalil’s experience at one of South Africa’s biggest clubs could work in his favour. During his time at Kaizer Chiefs, he was involved in the technical setup and gained valuable experience working in the highly demanding environment of top-flight South African football.

However, he is not the only name under consideration. Experienced South African coach Eric Tinkler has also been linked with the role. Tinkler is familiar with the club’s structure, having previously managed Maritzburg United before the club’s transformation into Durban City. His knowledge of the local football landscape and proven coaching record make him an attractive candidate.

Another coach reportedly in contention is Democratic Republic of Congo tactician Guy Bukasa. The highly regarded coach has built a reputation for his tactical approach and player development, making him another viable option for the ambitious club.

With preparations for the new season gathering pace, Durban City are eager to settle the coaching situation as soon as possible. Stability in the technical department will be crucial as the club looks to strengthen its squad and establish clear objectives for the upcoming campaign.

Reports indicate that Durban City are expected to finalise the appointment of their new head coach by June 22. Until then, speculation is likely to continue as supporters await confirmation of who will be entrusted with leading the club into a new era.

The coming weeks could prove decisive, with Khalil, Tinkler, and Bukasa all remaining firmly in the frame as Durban City close in on one of the most important decisions of their off-season.
