Former Ghana Sports Minister Akua Dansua regrets loss of Nora Hauptle to Zambia

Former Minister for Youth and Sports, Akua Sena Dansua, has voiced her dissatisfaction with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for failing to secure the services of Nora Häuptle, the former head coach of the Black Queens.

Dansua described the situation as a “shame” and labeled it a major missed opportunity for the growth of women’s football in Ghana.

Häuptle’s departure was confirmed on January 4, 2025, when the Zambian Football Federation appointed her as head coach of the Copper Queens, signing her to a multi-year contract.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, Dansua expressed her disappointment with the GFA’s handling of Häuptle’s contract renewal, suggesting that poor management contributed to her exit.

She pointed to potential factors behind the coach’s departure, including lack of resources and possible interference in her coaching role.

“Yeah, it’s a shame. It may boil down to interference in her work. There may also be a lack of resources.

“When you compare female football to male football, you see that almost 90% of resources go to the men’s teams, especially the national team.”

The Swiss’ time with the Black Queens was marked with remarkable success, helping the team qualify for its first AFCON since 2018.
