Former Ghana coach Claude Le Roy has tipped host country, Morocco to emerge as champions of the 2025 African Cup of Nations title.
The competition kicks off on December 21, 2025, with hosts Morocco facing Comoros in a Group A opener at the newly built 69,500-seater Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
The North African country will battle it out with Zambia, Mali and Comoros in Group A.
Morocco is hosting the AFCON for the first time since 1988 and is also preparing to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
In an interview, the 77-year-old French tactician tipped the North African country as the favourites to annex the title considering their squad depth and recent exploits at the World Cup, held in Qatar.
“Morocco has everything to succeed in a great CAN. It is a solid team, well supervised, which will play at home. This is logically the number one favorite.” Claude Le Roy said.
Meanwhile, the experienced trainer believes defending champions, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Algeria, Egypt, and Cameroon can have a strong presence at the tournament.
It is important to note that Ghana, who are four-time winners of the AFCON tournament is missing out for the first time in over 20-years after failing to secure qualification.
The Black Stars finished bottom in Group F, with Angola and Sudan securing qualification to the tournament .
