Former Egypt international Amr Marei has completed a move to Saudi Arabian third-division side Al-Bteen FC on a free transfer, marking the latest chapter in the veteran striker’s career.

The 32-year-old joins the Saudi club following a difficult spell at Egyptian club Arab Contractors, where he failed to find the back of the net in 17 appearances during their relegation campaign last season.

Al-Bteen, a club competing in Saudi Arabia’s third-tier league, signed Marei as a replacement for Egyptian midfielder Ammar El Qazzaz, who recently departed.

The club has not disclosed the details of Marei’s contract, leaving the length of his stay undisclosed.

Nonetheless, the acquisition of the experienced forward signals Al-Bteen’s intent to strengthen their attacking options as they aim for success in the domestic league.

Marei, a player with considerable experience in Egyptian football, has played for several prominent clubs throughout his career.

His journey has seen him suit up for teams such as Pyramids FC, Al Masry, ENPPI, Wadi Degla, El-Dakhleya, Tala’ea El Gaish, and Misr El-Makkasa.

Despite his recent struggles at Arab Contractors, Marei’s track record as a dependable forward in the Egyptian Premier League makes him a valuable asset for his new club.

This move to Al-Bteen marks Marei’s second venture abroad.

He previously enjoyed a stint in Tunisia with Etoile du Sahel, one of the country’s top football clubs.

During his time in Tunisia, Marei gained experience competing in both domestic and continental competitions, further broadening his international credentials.

Marei’s career, while marked by its highs and lows, is defined by his ability to adapt and contribute across different leagues and teams.

His best spell arguably came during his time at Etoile du Sahel, where he became a key figure in the team’s attack.

However, his more recent performances in Egypt have been less impactful, culminating in a challenging period at Arab Contractors that saw the team suffer relegation from the Egyptian Premier League.

For Al-Bteen, Marei’s arrival is a strategic move, aimed at bolstering their squad with a player who brings both domestic and international experience.

The club is hopeful that Marei can rediscover his form and help push the team forward in their league campaign.

Whether he can rekindle the form that once made him a standout striker in North Africa remains to be seen, but his signing has already generated buzz among the club’s supporters.

As Marei begins this new chapter of his career in Saudi Arabia, the spotlight will be on whether the experienced forward can adapt to the challenges of the Saudi third division and contribute to Al-Bteen’s ambitions.

For Marei, this move represents both a fresh start and an opportunity to reignite his career on a new stage.
