Ayman Ashraf, the former Al-Ahly stalwart, has officially announced his retirement from professional football, bringing to a close a career marked by both domestic and continental success.
Speaking to MC Egypt 2, Ashraf revealed that the decision came after six months of careful consideration, with the final choice made just four days ago. “Retirement was not sudden,” he said. “It followed a thorough review of my career and everything I have contributed on the pitch over the years.”
The former Al-Ahly defender, who also excelled at right-back, described stepping away from the game as one of the most difficult decisions of his life. “Football has been my world, my life. I wanted to leave the game with dignity, respecting the history I have built on the field,” he explained.
Ashraf confirmed he had received multiple offers from other clubs but felt none aligned with the legacy he has established. “I am proud of what I have achieved individually and collectively. I believe I have left a respected name in Egyptian football, particularly with Al-Ahly, where I won numerous local and continental titles,” he said.
He also paid tribute to the fans who supported him throughout his career. “The Al-Ahly supporters played a huge role in my journey. Their love and support, especially during tough moments, will always remain one of my most cherished memories from football.”
Over his career, Ashraf claimed three CAF Champions League titles, two African Super Cups, six Egyptian Premier League crowns, the Egypt Cup once, and the Egyptian Super Cup once. Internationally, he earned 32 caps for Egypt and was part of the Pharaohs’ squad at the 2018 World Cup.
Reflecting on his next chapter, Ashraf said, “I am fully satisfied with my decision and grateful to everyone who stood by me. A new stage begins now, beyond the green pitch, after a long career defined by commitment and dedication.”
