Former defender Moses Sichone named interim Zambia coach ahead of AFCON, Morocco 2025
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has officially confirmed the appointment of former Chipolopolo defender Moses Sichone as interim head coach of the national team ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set for December in Morocco.
Sichone, who has been a long-serving assistant in the technical setup, steps into the hot seat following the departure of Israeli coach Avram Grant, whose contract ended by mutual consent last month.
In a move aimed at maintaining continuity and stability, FAZ has assembled a technical bench largely made up of former Zambian internationals.
Andrew Sinkala and Perry Mutapa have been appointed as first and second assistant coaches respectively, while Kennedy Mweene, one of Zambia’s most iconic goalkeepers, will serve as goalkeeper coach.
Joseph Musonda takes on the role of physical trainer, with Noel Mwandila coming in as strikers coach.
The new setup reflects the association’s confidence in homegrown talent and its desire to foster a strong sense of national identity within the team.
Sichone’s appointment comes at a crucial time as Zambia look to regroup and build on recent progress, with connoisseurs and fans hoping the new technical team can inspire another memorable run on the continental stage.
