Former Cameroon goalkeeper Carlos Kameni earns UEFA A coaching licence
Former Cameroon international goalkeeper Carlos Kameni has taken another significant step in his post-playing career after earning his UEFA A coaching licence through the Spanish Football Federation.
The qualification marks an important milestone in the 42-year-old’s transition from professional football to coaching, equipping him with advanced knowledge and skills to develop players and contribute to the game from the technical area.
Kameni enjoyed a distinguished playing career, representing Cameroon at major international tournaments and gaining extensive experience in European football. His years between the posts exposed him to different football philosophies, coaching methods and competitive environments, which could prove valuable as he pursues his ambitions in management.
The UEFA A licence is a recognised coaching qualification within European football and represents an important stage in a coach’s professional development. It provides a pathway towards further coaching education, including the UEFA Pro licence, which is the highest level of UEFA coaching qualification.
Kameni is widely remembered for his performances for Cameroon, including his involvement in the Indomitable Lions’ successful 2000 Olympic Games campaign and their appearances at major international competitions. He also built a reputation in Spanish football, particularly during his time with Espanyol and Málaga.
His latest achievement underlines his commitment to remaining involved in football beyond his playing days. With his experience at both club and international levels, Kameni will now have an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained throughout his career as he continues to develop his coaching credentials.
The former goalkeeper’s achievement also adds to the growing number of former African internationals pursuing formal coaching qualifications as they prepare for new roles in football.
