Gerard Piqué, the former Barcelona and Spanish national team legend, recently shared his thoughts on 17-year-old prodigy Lamine Yamal during a candid conversation on Iker Casillas’ podcast.
Piqué expressed admiration for Yamal’s exceptional skills but suggested that such rapid ascension to the elite level might not have been possible in his own era.
“I have the feeling that Lamine Yamal would not be playing in our generation,” Piqué remarked, leaving open the question of whether he was referring to Barcelona or the national team.
Yamal’s meteoric rise has been remarkable. In the current season, he has made 22 appearances in La Liga, contributing 5 goals and 11 assists. His combined goals and assists tally stands at 16, underscoring his significant impact on the field.
Regarding his contract, Yamal has confirmed that he plans to renew his commitment to Barcelona, with discussions expected to take place in July. He emphasized his dedication to the club and expressed a strong desire to continue his journey with them.
However, Yamal has recently been dealing with an injury. He suffered a foot injury during a match against Las Palmas, which has raised concerns about his availability for upcoming fixtures. His participation in the Copa del Rey semifinal against Atlético Madrid is uncertain, as he missed a training session due to the injury.
