Former Angola coach Pedro Goncalves has explained how his departure ended striker, Ieltsin Camões’s potential invitation into the national team.
Goncalves, who is the current head coach of Young African had convinced the attacker, who is on the verge of joining Al Ahly accept call up into the Palancas Negras.
But Goncalves in an interview with Batolat disclosed his dismissal as head coach of the national team derailed Camões’ invitation.
“I know Ieltsin Camões, Al-Ahly’s new signing. He is a very strong player and possesses many outstanding technical abilities.”
“He was close to joining the Angolan national team, but my departure from the team prevented that,” referring to the matter being put on hold after the change in the coaching staff.
“I spoke with Camões for periods before I was dismissed from Angola, and my last task with the national team was to convince him to join.”
“He eventually agreed, but everything stopped from that time,” stressing that the file was not completed after his departure.
The Young Africans coach concluded by noting the lack of any official action afterward, saying: “I think the Angolan national team did not try again after that,” thus closing the door on questions regarding Camoes’ lack of international appearances so far”
