Karim Aribi has officially parted ways with MC Oran, sealing a transfer to Iraqi Premier League outfit Al Talaba following a disappointing season in Algeria’s top flight.
The 31-year-old striker, who previously represented Algeria at international level on four occasions, endured a difficult campaign in the colours of MCO.
Despite being seen as a marquee signing upon his arrival, Aribi struggled to make an impact, recording just one goal and one assist in 25 Ligue 1 Mobilis appearances.
His dip in form eventually led to him being relegated to the bench for much of the latter part of the season.
Born in Reghaïa, on the outskirts of Algiers, Aribi’s career has taken him on a journey across multiple countries and footballing landscapes.
From his early days in Algeria’s domestic league, he made a name for himself in Tunisia before earning a move to French side Nîmes Olympique.
Although his time in Ligue 1 was inconsistent, he managed to reestablish his scoring touch in subsequent spells in Algeria and Saudi Arabia.
Aribi’s departure from Oran marks yet another chapter in a career defined by its twists and turns.
His next stop is Al Talaba, a Baghdad-based club that finished fourth in the most recent Iraq Stars League campaign.
Despite their strong domestic finish, the team will not feature in any continental or regional competitions this year, which could afford Aribi the time and space needed to reignite his form and confidence.
At 1.92 metres tall, Aribi has long been known for his physical presence and aerial threat in the box.
However, that trademark strength did little to salvage his form during his brief stint in western Algeria.
With his contract now signed, the towering forward will hope his fortunes take a turn for the better in Iraq’s capital.
Aribi’s exit comes as part of a broader reshuffle at MC Oran, who are looking to rebuild after a frustrating season.
The move to Al Talaba offers a fresh start for the veteran striker, who still has the ambition and experience to make a meaningful contribution in a new league and environment.
