Former Al Ahly midfielder Ahmed El Sheikh criticises Egyptian star over betting promotion
Former Al Ahly SC player Ahmed El Sheikh has generated heated debate on social media after expressing his displeasure over an Egyptian football star allegedly promoting a betting company.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, El Sheikh voiced his shock at seeing what he described as a major Egyptian football figure involved in advertising for a betting platform.
“I can’t believe that a very big Egyptian star is promoting a betting company,” the former midfielder wrote, without revealing the identity of the player involved.
He continued by suggesting that the unnamed player did not need such sponsorship opportunities due to his popularity and strong financial standing.
“And God willing, may God increase him, he doesn’t need this talk, this star definitely has a large fan base everywhere, and there are definitely weak souls, except for those whom God has mercy on. O God, keep us steadfast, O Lord,” he added.
The comments quickly sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans backing El Sheikh’s criticism of footballers endorsing betting companies, while others argued that people should avoid making assumptions before more details emerge about the situation or the player being referenced.
