Former Al Ahly forward Ahmed Bilal opposes Pitso Mosimane’s reappointment
Former Al Ahly striker Ahmed Bilal has kicked against the possible return of Pitso Mosimane as head coach of the Egyptian giants.
The Red Devils parted ways with Spanish tactician José Riveiro, formerly of Orlando Pirates, after a string of disappointing results, a decision Bilal welcomed.
In the meantime, assistant coach Emad El Nahhas has been placed in charge of the team while the search for a permanent replacement continues.
Mosimane, who enjoyed a highly successful spell with Al Ahly between 2020 and 2022, has been linked with a comeback.
During his tenure, the South African led the club to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles and several domestic honours.
Despite his decorated record, Bilal believes Mosimane is not the right candidate to succeed Riveiro. Instead, he argued the club should look beyond Africa for a new coach.
“The choice of Emad El Nahhas is very apt. He knows everything about the team during this critical period. Emad El Nahhas has proven his success with Al Ahly in his first term, and I hope the experience continues until next November,” Bilal said per Kooora.
“I hope to wait until a technical director is chosen who knows everything, and that he comes during the break so that he can be held accountable in the event of a stumbling block.
“Big teams cannot tolerate failed attempts by coaches, and big teams cannot tolerate more than three failures,” he added.
On Mosimane’s potential return, Bilal was unequivocal: “I am against Pitso Mosimane’s return, and I was against Jose Riveiro’s selection. I do not support the idea of looking for a coach who works in African teams, because they are all inferior to Al Ahly.”
