Former AIK star Ebenezer Ofori signs for FC Atyrau

Former AIK star Ebenezer Ofori has taken another unexpected step in his globe‑trotting career by signing for Kazakh club FC Atyrau.

The 31‑year‑old Ghanaian midfielder arrives on a free transfer after a brief and unusual stint with Iraqi side Mosul, marking yet another fresh start far from the Swedish stage where he first made his name.

Ofori was discovered by AIK in Ghana and joined the Stockholm club in 2013, quickly becoming one of Allsvenskan’s standout players. After four impressive seasons, he earned a move in January 2017 to VfB Stuttgart, who had just been relegated from the Bundesliga but bounced straight back up. Game time in Germany was limited, however, and he made only ten appearances before heading to MLS on loan with New York City FC in 2018-2019.

AIK brought him home in 2020, but his second spell never quite reached the heights of his first. Subsequent stops at Vejle in Denmark and Zalgiris in Lithuania were followed by his surprise move to war‑scarred Mosul. After just half a year in Iraq, Ofori has now penned a deal with Atyrau, hoping his experience and composure in midfield can anchor the Kazakh side in their domestic campaign.
