The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed that the upcoming Egyptian Premier League match between Zamalek SC and Ceramica Cleopatra FC will be handled by a foreign officiating team following a request from Zamalek.

The two sides are set to face off in the seventh and final round of the championship stage on Wednesday, May 20, in a crucial encounter that could have a significant impact on the title race.

In an official statement released on Monday, the EFA announced that its board of directors had approved Zamalek’s request to appoint foreign referees for the fixture.

“The board of directors of the Egyptian Football Association has agreed to bring in foreign referees for the Zamalek and Ceramica match in the seventh round of the final stage of the first group in the league,” the statement read.

The association further disclosed that the referees committee, led by Oscar Ruiz, has already started the necessary procedures and contacts to secure an international refereeing crew for the high-profile encounter.

“The referees committee of the Egyptian Football Association, headed by Oscar Ruiz, has begun its efforts and contacts to bring in foreign referees for the match, in accordance with the procedures followed,” the statement added.

Zamalek currently tops the championship group standings with 53 points as they continue their push for the league title, while Ceramica Cleopatra sits fourth with 44 points heading into the decisive round of fixtures.
