The match saw an early penalty for Ghana, converted by Kwabena Edusei in the 2nd minute. Senegal responded with a goal by Roger Gomis in the 22nd minute, leveling the score at 1-1 at halftime. In the second half, Latif Mohammed scored in the 78th minute to give Ghana the lead, and Kwabena Edusei converted another penalty in the 81st minute to secure a 3-1 victory. Togo claimed the third-place title by defeating Benin 2-1 earlier in the competition.
