The 2013 edition of the UFOA football tournament was scheduled to conclude in Kumasi with a match for third place between Benin and Togo and the grand final between Ghana and Senegal. However, the Beninese team threatened to boycott the match for third place, alleging they were robbed in their game against Sierra Leone. The Squirrels were leading 2-0 at halftime but ended up with a 2-2 draw, finishing the match with nine players. The Beninese players pointed out the bias of the referee and, as a result, a delegation from the UFOA, led by its president Kwesi Nyantakyi, engaged in negotiations to persuade them to play the match.
