FOOTBALL TUNISIA: THE CARTHAGE EAGLES DEPRIVED OF THE 2014 WORLD CUP PLAY-OFFS?

The situation in Tunisian football has taken a concerning turn, with the government expressing dissatisfaction with the football federation’s management and requesting its dissolution. However, this move is considered political interference by FIFA, which has warned against such actions.

FIFA has conveyed its dismay regarding the government’s demand for the dissolution of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF). Nabil Daboussi, the FTF spokesperson, revealed that FIFA received a letter from the ministry seeking the FTF’s dissolution, and FIFA expressed its concerns about the consequences of such interference by government authorities in the federation’s affairs.

The potential dissolution of the FTF could have severe repercussions, including the exclusion of Tunisian footballers from national and international competitions, suspension of regional and national team participation in African and World Cup competitions, and the restriction of players from participating in foreign teams.

This situation bears similarities to the issues that led to the suspension of Cameroon a few months ago. If the dissolution occurs, it could impact the qualification process for the 2014 World Cup, potentially benefiting teams like Cameroon or even Cape Verde, which had initially faced disqualification for using an ineligible player against Tunisia.

African football, known for its unpredictable and complex scenarios, adds another layer of uncertainty with this development in Tunisia. The final outcomes remain to be seen as the situation unfolds.
