Togo Football Normalization Committee Outlines Plan for 2014-15 Season Amid Boycott Calls
The normalization committee overseeing Togolese football convened on Friday with club presidents from Division 1 and Division 2, alongside representatives from the country’s football leagues. The meeting aimed to present the committee’s timetable and action plan to key stakeholders as the sport seeks stability.
Unlike previous sessions, the normalization committee led by Antoine Folly received a positive response, with around twenty federation members attending. Several prominent clubs, including Maranatha, Agaza, Okiti, and ASFOSA, who have participated in earlier discussions, were joined by teams such as Tigre Noir Zéphir, Gbohloe-Su, and clubs from Togo’s interior regions.
The committee outlined its roadmap for the upcoming 2014-2015 season, confirming a kickoff date of March 15. This announcement provides clarity after months of uncertainty surrounding the national league’s future.
However, not all voices were in agreement. The so-called “Group of 36,” opposing Antoine Folly’s office, called for a boycott of the meeting. Despite this, the boycott appeal appears to have been largely ignored by some members within the group, as evidenced by their attendance.
The normalization committee’s efforts mark a significant step toward restoring order and progress in Togolese football, as the sport aims to overcome internal divisions and resume competitive play.
