The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) made an announcement on Monday regarding the appointment of Martin Ignatius as the new coach of the national football team. Martinus Ignatius Nooij, commonly known as Mart Nooij, is a 59-year-old Dutch coach who most recently served as the head coach of the Ethiopian club Saint George.
Nooij has an extensive coaching background, having previously managed FC Santos in South Africa, as well as teams in Mozambique and Burkina Faso.
His primary objective with Tanzania will be to guide the team to qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). The journey begins next month with the first preliminary round of the competition against Zimbabwe, followed by a potential matchup against the winner of Mozambique vs. South Sudan. If successful, Tanzania will advance to Group F of the qualifiers, where they will face Zambia, Cape Verde, and Niger.
