The Petite Côte derby, as anticipated by ATS, lived up to its billing. Played this Saturday at the Fodé de Wade stadium in the seaside resort of Saly, it witnessed Stade de Mbour, far from being favorites, defeat the Diambars Institute in Saly with a score of 1-0.
In a packed stadium, both teams sought to assert their dominance from the outset. However, the Diambars, accustomed to developing a more consolidated and structured game, set the pace.
Yet, they didn’t account for the defensive solidity of the Stade players, who revealed no flaws for the Academicians to exploit.
Half-time was reached with the score level at 0-0. However, upon resuming play, Diambars intensified their efforts. Their game plan seriously impeded the progress of the Stadistes, who made several mistakes.
This led to a red card for the Mbourois midfielder. Despite being reduced to 10 men, it did not dampen the morale of the team, who managed to score in the 76th minute through Sory Keita.
Despite Diambars’ best efforts, the score remained unchanged. Stade de Mbour, having ended Diambars Academy’s four-match unbeaten run, secured their second victory of the season.
In other matches, AS Pikine defeated Casa Sport de Ziguinchor 1-0, Diaraf de Dakar beat OL Ngor 2-0, and DUC students convincingly defeated Niarry Tally 3-0.
Linguère from Saint-Louis secured their first victory of the season by defeating newly-promoted Suneor from Diourbel 2-1.
The sixth matchday aimed to set records for victories and goals, as out of the six matches played, five ended in victories. The Autonomous Port of Dakar (leader) shared points with US Ouakam (0-0).
In total, 10 goals were scored in these five matches.
