Geoffrey Kondogbia reflects on Marseille disappointment following Toulouse defeat

Marseille midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has called on his team to move forward after their painful exit from the Coupe de France quarter-finals, following a defeat to Toulouse FC that ended the club’s hopes of lifting the domestic trophy this season.

Speaking shortly after the match to broadcaster beIN Sports, the midfielder acknowledged the disappointment felt within the Marseille camp as their campaign in the competition came to an abrupt halt.

Kondogbia did not explain why he was not among the five players selected to take penalties, but his reaction reflected the frustration shared by the squad after the defeat.

” Disillusionment, along with sadness ,” expressed the dejected midfielder. ” We were determined to go all the way, but we didn’t.

There’s not much to say, except that we have to look ahead. We still have the league title, we’ll fight until the end, that’s all we can do. “

The result was a major setback for Olympique de Marseille, who had viewed this season’s Coupe de France as a genuine opportunity to end a long wait for success in the competition.

Their last triumph in the tournament dates back to 1989, and hopes had been raised this year after Paris Saint‑Germain were eliminated earlier in the competition.

With one of the traditional favourites already out, the path to the trophy appeared more open than in recent seasons.

However, Marseille were unable to capitalise, falling short in the quarter-finals before reaching the final stages of the tournament.

The defeat also extended another frustrating run for the club. Marseille had not reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de France for a decade, and their latest exit means that wait will continue for at least another year.

For Kondogbia and his team-mates, attention must now turn elsewhere. With their cup ambitions over, the club’s focus shifts to domestic league competition, where Marseille still harbour hopes of competing for the title.

While the elimination leaves lingering disappointment among supporters and players alike, Kondogbia insisted the team must quickly regroup.

The midfielder’s message was clear: Marseille cannot change what has happened, but they must ensure the setback does not derail their remaining objectives this season.
