Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbu back for Slavia Prague as title race enters decisive phase
Nigeria international Igoh Ogbu has returned from injury to rejoin league leaders SK Slavia Prague at a decisive stage of the campaign, declaring that lifting the title is the only acceptable outcome as the season reaches its closing stretch.
The defender, who had been sidelined in recent weeks, confirmed he has recovered and is ready to contribute as Slavia attempt to maintain their advantage at the top of the Czech league standings.
His return offers a timely boost for the club’s defensive line as the title race intensifies. Slavia currently lead the table with 58 points, holding an advantage over rivals AC Sparta Prague as the competition enters its final phase.
The Nigerian centre-back, a regular presence in the back line before his injury, said he was relieved to be available again after a spell away from the pitch.
Speaking about the setback and his recovery, he acknowledged the challenges that injuries can present for professional players.
“Sometimes, when it comes to injuries, it’s something you can’t stop,” he analyzed matter-of-factly. “We can only focus on prevention, but for my part, I’m happy to be back. It’s a joy to rejoin the team, to play football with the guys again, and to experience these moments once more.”
The final weeks of the season are expected to be decisive, with little margin for error as Slavia seek to defend their position at the summit of the table.
Every match carries greater importance as the pressure grows on teams competing for the title.
Ogbu also praised his teammates for maintaining the club’s strong position during his absence, recognising the collective effort that kept the team on course in the championship race.
“They did very well while I was away, and I’m proud of them. Rejoining them again is great, and now I have to work hard to help us win things together.”
While his immediate focus is regaining match rhythm and strengthening the defence, the Nigerian made it clear that the team’s ambition remains unchanged as the campaign approaches its conclusion.
“I want to do my best, continue to grow, and deliver the best for our fans so that at the end of the day, we lift the trophy. That’s what I stand for,” he concluded.
With Ogbu now back in the squad, Slavia Prague head into the decisive stage of the season with one of their key defensive figures available once again.
