Algerian midfielder Houssem Aouar hits career-best scoring record
Algerian midfielder Houssem Aouar has reached a new milestone in his career after recording his most productive scoring season following his latest goal for Al Ittihad.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder found the net against Al Ettifaq FC on Thursday, taking his tally to 14 goals in all competitions this season and setting a new personal best at club level.
The strike moved Aouar beyond the 13-goal mark he achieved during the previous campaign, making this his most prolific attacking season to date, according to Lagazettedufennec.
The achievement arrives at an important moment for both the player and the Algeria national team, with Vladimir Petkovic expected to announce his final squad soon.
Under contract with Al Ittihad until 2028, Aouar has become increasingly influential during the current campaign, producing his strongest statistical return since beginning his professional career.
His form also comes at a significant stage in Algeria’s preparations and ambitions on the international scene. Qualification for the 2026 World Cup would represent Aouar’s second major international tournament with the Fennecs following his participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
That tournament ended in disappointment for Algeria, who were eliminated during the group stage. Aouar later missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations because of injury, temporarily halting his progress with the national side.
Since returning from that setback, however, the midfielder has shown encouraging signs with Al Ittihad, rediscovering rhythm and consistency in front of goal.
His current run of form is likely to strengthen his position ahead of Algeria’s upcoming international fixtures, particularly as attention turns toward World Cup qualification and the rebuilding efforts under Petkovic.
For Aouar, surpassing his previous scoring record represents both a personal achievement and a timely reminder of his importance for club and country as he looks to carry his momentum into the international stage with Algeria.
