Belgium is set to face Ivory Coast in a friendly match in March 2014 as part of their preparation for the 2014 World Cup. The announcement was made by the coach of the Belgian national team, Marc Wilmots. After securing their qualification for the World Cup, Wilmots plans to arrange matches with teams from different continents, including Colombia and Japan.
While Belgium is gearing up for the World Cup, Ivory Coast is yet to secure qualification. However, the Elephants took a step closer with a convincing 3-1 victory against Senegal on Saturday. They will have the chance to confirm their place in Brazil during the return match on November 16. If successful, Ivory Coast will face Belgium in what promises to be an enticing friendly featuring top-quality players from both sides, including Drogba, Kalou, Gervinho, Yaya Touré against Hazard, Dembélé, Lukaku, and Kompany.
As of the announcement, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has not yet confirmed the friendly match.
