Taha Basry was a revered name in Egyptian football, having left an indelible mark on the sport. As a former midfielder, he was part of the elite group of players who contributed to some of the most memorable moments in Egyptian football history. His achievements included winning the Egyptian championship during the 1977-78 season with Zamalek, where he had been a member since 1965. This triumph also earned him the prestigious title of Egypt’s best footballer of the year in the same season. Additionally, Basry clinched two National Cup titles with Zamalek in 1975 and 1977.
Basry’s influence extended beyond Egypt’s borders, as he represented his country in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He notably contributed to Egypt’s third-place finishes in the 1970 and 1974 editions of the tournament, scoring crucial goals along the way. His participation in the 1976 CAN also left a mark, with Basry scoring two goals during the competition.
