Coton Sport de Garoua, the reigning Cameroonian champion, is set to lose the support of its historic sponsor, the Cotton Development Company (Sodecoton), according to Gabriel Mbaïrobé, the chairman of the board of directors. Sodecoton has been providing a budget of 500 million CFA francs in full since the club’s inception. Mbaïrobé, awarded the prize for the best club president in Cameroon, acknowledged the withdrawal of Sodecoton and expressed confidence in Coton Sport’s ability to manage without the significant financial support. The club will rely on per diems from the Confederation of African Football, player transfer benefits, subsidies from the municipality of Garoua, supporter card sales, and support from future partners to sustain its operations. This marks a new phase for the club, which has been historically linked to the corporate sponsorship of Sodecoton.
