Mbaye Leye, sidelined from the Belgian Championship due to a knee injury sustained last August, is on the brink of making a comeback to the field. After resuming training on February 18, the Senegalese striker from Zulte-Waregem is inching closer to full fitness, although his coach remains cautious about rushing his return.
“It’s a joy to see him back on the pitch,” expressed Francky Dury, Zulte-Waregem’s coach, in Het Nieuwsblad. “Leye is nearing a return to selection. However, this weekend’s fixture against Waasland-Beveren may still be too soon,” he added. Dury believes that allowing Leye some additional time to regain match fitness will be crucial before he can make a significant impact on the pitch.
While Dury suggested that this weekend’s match might come too early for Leye to start, he did not rule out the possibility of having the 30-year-old striker available on the bench. With careful management and gradual integration, Leye could soon be ready to contribute effectively, especially with the Play-Offs looming ahead.
