For a span of four days, from Friday, November 22, to Monday, November 25, supporters of two local football teams in Guerrara, located in the south of Algeria, engaged in clashes after a football match, resulting in extensive damage in the city. In the aftermath of these violent incidents, nine individuals have been charged by an investigating judge, as reported by APS (Algerian Press Service).
The charges brought against the nine individuals include “armed assembly on public roads, destruction, arson, and attempted theft of public and private property.” Additionally, they are accused of “attack on law enforcement officers on a mission,” as stated by the security services of Ghardaïa, as cited by APS. Thirteen other individuals, also implicated in these events, have been placed under judicial supervision. Furthermore, 110 others have received direct summons for their involvement in the incidents and are expected to appear on the day of the trial, according to the same source.
The clashes and subsequent legal actions underscore the serious consequences of football-related violence, emphasizing the need for measures to ensure public safety and prevent such incidents in the future.
