Aïssa Mandi crowned Lille Player of the Season after strong campaign
Aïssa Mandi has been named Lille’s Player of the Season after a consistent and influential campaign with the Ligue 1 club during the 2025–26 season.
The Algerian international defender received the award after being voted the standout performer by supporters, recognising his importance to Bruno Genesio’s side throughout the campaign.
Lille confirmed the accolade through a video shared on their official channels, showing Mandi collecting his trophy ahead of the match against Auxerre. The award was presented by head coach Bruno Genesio in front of the club’s supporters.
Since arriving in August 2024, Mandi has quickly established himself as a key figure within the squad. Bringing extensive experience from top-level European football, he has become a reliable presence in Lille’s defensive structure.
His performances have been marked by consistency, composure in possession, and leadership qualities that have made him an important figure both on and off the pitch.
Club officials highlighted these attributes when explaining the supporters’ decision, pointing to his steady performances in a league known for its intensity and competitiveness.
Week after week, the former Villarreal defender maintained a high level, playing a central role in Lille’s tactical system and contributing to the team’s overall stability.
His influence was also reflected in Lille’s strong league finish, with the club securing third place in Ligue 1 after a season in which experience and defensive organisation proved crucial in key moments.
At 34, Mandi continues to demonstrate his reliability at the highest level, reinforcing his reputation as one of Algeria’s most consistent defenders of his generation.
The recognition is also likely to strengthen his standing within the national team setup as preparations continue for upcoming major tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup, where his experience could remain an important asset for Algeria.
