Togo’s First Division Kicks Off with Victory for Reigning Champions Anges de Notsé
The Togolese first division football championship officially got underway on Saturday with a ceremonial launch in the town of Notsè, located 95 kilometers from the capital, Lomé. The season opener featured reigning champions Anges de Notsé, who hosted Maranatha de Fiokpo in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Anges began their title defense on a positive note, narrowly defeating Maranatha 1-0 in a tightly contested match. The decisive moment came in the 55th minute when Laba Fodoh finished off a superb pass from Samari Moitapari, securing all three points for the hosts. Despite several attempts from both sides, no further goals were scored.
The opening match was preceded by a colorful parade featuring all 12 first division clubs, who marched in front of government officials and national sports authorities. The ceremony symbolized a fresh start for the domestic league and underscored the growing importance of football in Togo’s sporting calendar.
The championship will continue on Sunday with five more fixtures scheduled across the country. Fans will be watching closely as teams look to make an early impression in what promises to be a competitive season.
