FOOT / CEMAC 2013: GABON STARTS WITH A BANG, THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC IS EXPECTED!

The CEMAC Cup (Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa) 2013 edition kicked off this Monday in Gabon, featuring six countries from the sub-region divided into two groups of three teams each. Unfortunately for Gabon, the opening match did not go well as they faced a 3-0 defeat against Cameroon. The Gabonese team, led by Daniel Cousin, aims to use this competition as preparation for CHAN 2014 in South Africa.

Notably, the Central African Republic is still absent from the tournament, and there are indications that socio-political instability in the country has contributed to this delay. The Fauves de l’Oubangui (Central African Republic’s national team) are yet to arrive in Libreville, and the reasons are linked to the ongoing challenges in their home country.

Looking ahead, Cameroon, after securing a victory against Gabon, will be looking to display an improved performance in their upcoming match against Equatorial Guinea in Group B, which also includes Congo (the defending champion), Chad, and the yet-to-arrive Central African Republic. Despite the tournament having commenced, uncertainties surround the participation of the Central African Republic, hinting at a potential withdrawal from the competition due to the prevailing socio-political situation.
